Article 1 International students should observe the discipline, and should not be absent without permission and have to ask for a leave before any absence in urgency or sickness.

Article 2 The procedures of asking for a leave:

Except for emergency, a certification provided by the designated hospitals is required for asking a sick leave. If the duration of a sick leave is within 1 days, international students can submit it to the head teacher who is in charge of the class to get permission. If the leave extends over 1 days, a written report should be submitted to School of International Cooperation & Education (SICE).

For a business leave, a written request is necessary and the oral requests are not allowed. For a business leave of over 1 days, a written report shall be submitted to SICE is necessary and the leave should happen after the permission is granted. International students who are absent from class without permission will be regarded as playing truants.

Article 3 To keep the order in teaching, the international student who is late for class or leaves early for three times would be treated as playing truant.

Article 4 If the accumulated duration of a international student’s absence with or without permission is over one third of the total teaching periods of one subject, he/she is not allowed to participate in the exam or re-sit of that subject.

Article 5 If a international student is on sick leave or business leave for an accumulated time of 8 weeks in one semester; his/her studies should be suspended. The international student who is unable to study because of sickness or urgent business is allowed to suspend his studies if he/she has made a formal application. The longest period allowed for suspension is one year. If a international student does not return at the set time, he/she is considered to have terminated his/her studies.

Article 6 The international students enjoy summer and winter vacations and Chinese national holidays. There are no other holidays (of international students’ own country) permitted. If the international students request for a leave for their national holidays during the working day, SICE will take the situation into consideration and decide whether to agree or not. If the request is allowed, the international students will not be arranged to make up the lessons missed.

Article 7 International students who are absent without permission, fail to return on time, or leave NTVU without permission before classes are over, shall be subjected to the following punishments:

i. “Warning” is given to those who are absent for 10 or more study-hours.

ii. “Serious warning” is given to those who are absent for 20 or more study-hours.

iii. “Record demerit” is given to those who are absent for 30 or more study-hours.

iv. “Academic probation” is given to those who are absent for 40 or more study-hours.

v. “Expelled” is given to those who are absent for 50 or more study-hours, or stay away from the school for 2 weeks without permission.

The international student who ignores school regulations, absent from class, late, leave early very often without permission, destroys public property, fights with others etc., shall be criticized, warned, given demerits or placed Academic probation or may be dismissed.

An international student who is placed Academic probation by NTVU can regain normal status if he/she can correct his/her behavior and make great progress in his/her study within one year. Otherwise, he/she shall be expelled and must be returned to his/her country.

If NTVU makes the above decisions, the international student, the embassy of his/her country and his/her family will be notified in written form. He/she must leave immediately.

Article 8 International students who are absent for classes without permission, or who do not return to NTVU on time, or leave NTVU without permission shall be punished. 

Article 9 If an international student wants to travel outside Nantong during vacations, he/she should register in Overseas Student Affairs Office of SICE and report the destinations and date of return etc.
